Agriculture is responsible for much of the eutrofication of the worlds fresh water ecosystems due to nitrogen and the phosphorous pollution. Addressing different aspects of the food system is thus crucial for the environment. Large scale production and processing methods, it is argued are needed to meet growing needs from population increases. Many believe that humans should have the right to choose what we eat, while others believe that our planet can not sustain consumption profiles of the industrialized nations.
