As we talkmore and more about efficient use of water it is good to see that people are adopting new technologies to reduce their water use.Al Hosn Investment Company SAOC (HIC) launched the Sultanate's first-ever Greenhouse Agricultural Project based the hydroponics system in Al Fulaij in the Wilayat of Barka with an investment of more than RO 4 million. The total area of the project is 33 hectares with a total production capacity of about 3,000 tonnes annually. The project will produce a variety of vegetables including various kinds of tomatoes and coloured peppers.
This unique project is characterised by its ability to produce vegetables throughout the year. Its products will be marketed under the name of Nia'ma. It will also provide a supply of vegetables during the summer months when vegetable crops typically decrease due to the hot temperature. Furthermore, the venture will contribute to achieving food security, transfer of modern agro technology, and rationalisation of the water usage.
Water & Life Agriculture Co LLC (an Omani-Qatari governmental company) is executing the project. This limited liability company was incorporated in 2012 as the first investment affiliate of Al Hosn Investment Company in the agricultural field. The company is undertaking this project in collaboration with two Spanish companies. While HIC owns 85 per cent of the project, MSC owns 10 per cent and Zeta 5 per cent of shares.
