As said, agriculture should use water efficiently. I wanted to post this artcle about growing paddy seedlings differently. Experts at the V.C. Farm claim that the ‘tray nursery method’ will help farmers overcome these problems. Under the new method, paddy seedlings will be raised in trays and transplantation will be mechanised. “We have launched this method for the time in the State,” D.K. Sidde Gowda, entomologist (Rice, V.C. Farm), told The Hindu here on Sunday. Traditionally, farmers raise seedlings in nurseries. These seedlings can be damaged or destroyed owing to heavy rain, attack by birds/animals and so on. The possibility of seedlings raised in nurseries being infected by root-knot nematodes and other diseases was high. But, seedlings raised in trays would be disease free and easy to transplant, said Mr. Gowda. Under the new method, the labour cost and the quantity of seeds required per acre would come down. In addition, farmers could raise paddy seedlings in less time compared to the traditional method, he said.
