Water purification systems are also being run on solar energy.

Rural drinking water systems, being promoted by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Govt of India, are introducing solar water pumping systems to provide the water in overhead tanks and make the drinking water available 24x7.

Solar water pumps are changing the way the water is pumped. No dependency on electricity. Fields can be irrigated during the day time,. Rajasthan has more than 15,000 such solar water pumps installed.

There is no dearth of information or expertise on 'how to have safe clean water' - I mean t is done in most developed countries already. We just have to replicate the model here. But the main problem is lack of attention. Some basic things like drainage system etc. are missing in our country and we simply dump everything into ponds, rivers lakes etc. We need to study the model being used by others and simply copy it here - city by city.

What is your suggestion as our towns have old architecture system. At least we can do what is available at this situation of time.Yes I agree the MASS AWARENESS is required and at the same time we can study new technology for Water Management.

Dear Renu ji, De Nora Electrochlorination"Green Technologies" is using Electricity for purifying water to the best of my info I availed from browsing. Electricity is yet to reach in quite a few villages in India. In most of the villages, it is just for hours or so. If our target is to protect mass who lives in village n suffer most from water borne disease, one must consider solar water purifier.

Rajesh Puranik Hi Renu, Real problem in rural area is water scarcity. People are not having access to safe and potable water in many villages. Our country with a village load of more than 5 lakhs villages, government reporting of habitations fully covered and partially covered drinking water is needs to be re defined in the context of sustainability. What I feel is that every village should have its WATER POLICY taking into account all sorts of needs.

Renu ji there is enough water available in rural areas through water tanks and rivers like godavari etc.but the real problem is the availability of of clean water.many water bodies are heavily contaminated due to poor sanitation and bad practices at the banks of the rivers and ponds and the public miss use.In olden days in many rural areas there was keeping one or two clean water tanks supervised by the local authorities like municipalities, now every village is depending on overhead water supply..totally run by pumping,if the power problem arises in summer there is a frequent water scarcity..so every village should have an alternative drinking water supply under the supervision of local govt organizations..also the miss use of drinking water/wastage should be prevented with care.
