The Water Loss Specialist Group is strongly focused on all treated water that is lost, which is mostly from underground leaks on water-mains and water service pipes, and also how to reduce those losses through leak detection and hydraulic control.
About the Conference
Water Loss 2024 is intended to present and discuss the latest developments, strategies, techniques, and applications of international best practices in Non-Revenue Water Management.
Water Loss 2024 will be a very special event being the first English/Spanish full bilingual water loss management conference! Since 2002 the Water Loss Specialist Group (WLSG) is organizing this biannual conference which has become the World’s Largest Water Loss Conference!
The last conference, Water Loss 2022, took place in the beautiful city of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. The IWA WLSG is extremely pleased that WL 2024 will again be in a most beautiful city!
The fourteen main topics which will be discussed during the conference are:

- Leak detection technologies, strategies, equipment
- Network zoning and DMA design
- Asset management and condition assessment
- Pressure monitoring and management
- Water metering
- Digitalization and the use of artificial intelligence
- Smart water networks
- Performance based NRW management contracts
- Organizational and institutional issues
- Economics and financing
- Capacity building and human resource issues
- Regulation, target setting, benchmarking, and performance indicators
- Case studies from around the world - successes and failures
Call for Abstracts
OPEN submission period - submission deadline: 30 SEPTEMBER 2023
Authors are encouraged to present papers dealing with any water loss related topic. The aim is to provide a comprehensive programme of the highest quality, reflecting a wide range of international experiences.
You are invited to submit an extended abstract (500 – 1,000 words, including figures, diagrams, or illustrations) in pdf format. Please headline your abstract with the following information:
- Topic (choose one from the list, #1 - #14 )
- Title of presentation
- Author’s name and affiliation, email address (if several authors, highlight corresponding author)
- Presenting author’s country (country where the author is based)
Proposals (topics) for workshops or panel discussions can also be submitted. Please indicate if you like to design and manage the workshop/discussion or it is just a suggestion for the WLSG to organize and find the most appropriate speakers.
