Smart Home Technology | Water Conservation | Water Leak Detection for Toilets
I am an independent consultant, working together with a private company (Flow Stop, LLC) to help identify a company who would joint venture in the production of the Flow Stop units. Flow Stop, LLC is an (early stage) active water leak device that constantly monitors the flow signature of the toilet.
Flow Stop is already getting pre-orders for the product from large builders and property management companies.
The goal of Flow Stop is to:
1. Stop Water Damage to Properties! | Toilet failure, in particular toilet clogs and overflowing toilets, is one of the leading causes of water damage.
2. Stop Wasting Water! | Approximately One Trillion gallons of water are wasted in the USA every single year. Most of that water flows directly down the toilet drain.
What makes Flow Stop different from the other water sensor devices?
There are a lot of companies that offer a water alarm sensor that alerts you to leaks at the toilet in your home, but their product only offers a warning sensor and does stop the flow of water. This type of sensor does not stop the flow of water, so the water is still going on the floor.
The Flow Stop device includes a water flow sensor and a shut-off assembly. The Flow Stop device detects the leak and STOPS the flow of water. The device protects water from going on the floor and from wasting water down the drain. The device has a controller that receives input from the flow sensor and sends a signal to the shut-off assembly whenever excess water flow is detected. Any water flow that is inconsistent with proper operation is identified and stopped. This approach not only prevents damage from overflowing toilets, but also failure modes where the water is lost down the drain due to flapper valve and fill valve related issues. The device can also protect the toilet supply line. Also, the Flow Stop device has Wi-Fi, LoRaWAN & (loT) capabilities .
