Plantita
Published on by Maysoon Sharif, Project Manager at Greeley and Hansen for AguaClara Reach, Inc.
For raw water up to 1000 NTU, the Plantita can support populations between 300 and 3,000 people. Water is purified in a five step treatment train: coagulation- flocculation- sedimentation- filtration- disinfection. At no point in the treatment process is any electricity required.
This high turbidity plant is prefabricated, using locally available materials such as PVC pipe and polycarbonate sheets. The unit can be manufactured locally, and the treatment system can be operated and maintained by a person with a 6th grade education. O&M, including savings for long-term repairs costs 2-5 USD per household per month.
