Utilities Reliability Engineer
Salary $83,304.00 - $112,403.20 Annually

The City of Cedar Rapids is looking for a highly motivated and skilled Utilities Reliability Engineer to join our team at that the Water Pollution Control Facility. This role is pivotal in ensuring the reliability and performance of the WPC utility systems.
The Utilities Reliability Engineer will lead efforts to enhance equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and optimize the operational efficiency of our utility systems through preventative maintenance strategies and continuous improvement.

About this Opportunity
Provides reliability and maintenance engineering technical support and leadership. Supports the delivery of business objectives through the application of defect elimination, root cause analysis, project management, and technical support of on-site maintenance execution, operations, and project teams.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Enhances equipment reliability and maintenance through data analysis and troubleshooting of failed equipment; provides engineering and troubleshooting support to operations and maintenance teams.
- Identifies and implements initiatives that deliver improvements in safety, asset performance, and cost
- Provides capital project validation and delivery support including development of equipment specifications around improved maintainability and reliability
- Optimizes the Mean-Time-To-Repair (MTTR)
- Responsible for technical accuracy of the job steps
- Develops equipment modification plans
- Creates plans to standardize equipment and parts across the plant
- Leads the Root Cause Failure Analysis effort
- Develops specific equipment preservation techniques
- Conducts/arranges craft skills training for precision maintenance
- Assesses and updates asset criticality ranking.
- Establishes and updates Equipment Maintenance Plans
- Develops Preventative Maintenance Optimization strategies
- Initiates changes to the Equipment Maintenance Plan based on analysis of asset failure data
- Evaluates various types of maintenance for ways to improve Mean Time Between Failures
- Supports Equipment Design and Life Cycle Costing Analysis of capital projects
- Reviews and/or develops commissioning procedures for new system, assets, and component design
- Develops specific maintenance and operational start-up procedures for new installations
- Performs related work as required.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field and 5 to 7 years of experience in reliability or maintenance engineering
OR
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience (i.e., one year of relevant experience may substitute for one year of education)
- Experience in delivering continuous improvement initiatives and projects
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations
Required Licenses or Certifications
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License
Desired Qualifications
- Lean Six Sigma experience or Black Belt Certification
- Certification as a Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) or Reliability Leader (CRL) and/or any equivalent professional engineering organization certification
- Education or training in Reliability Engineering Fundamentals
Work Schedule
- Monday-Friday 6:30am-3:30pm
