DEP is looking for a skilled and experienced leader to join its team as the Director of the Bureau of Waterways Engineering and Wetlands within its Office of Water Programs.

The position plays an integral role in the statewide management of Pennsylvania’s flood control projects and dam safety regulation.  It directs, through subordinate managers and supervisors, a team of engineering, administrative and technical staff engaged in regulatory development and technical guidance for a variety of programs.  These programs include flood protection, dam safety, and waterways and wetlands.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Bureau of Waterways Engineering and Wetlands (BWEW) contains three main programs:  Dam Safety, Water Obstructions and Encroachments, and Flood Protection.  These programs provide for the comprehensive planning, regulation, and management of dams, reservoirs, and water obstructions and encroachments in order to protect health, safety, welfare, and property.  It administers the Dam Safety and Encroachments Act, the Flood Plain Management Act, the Limited Power Act, and the Clean Streams Law, and the federal Clean Water Act; and mobilizes, when needed, to provide emergency response to flooding situations.

The Bureau Director plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates statewide programs for these activities and closely coordinates all program activities with related federal, state, and local government agencies.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Nine years of professional experience in water resources engineering or waterways engineering, which includes four years of managerial experience and a bachelor's degree in an engineering field related to water resources or waterways engineering;  OR

An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes four years of managerial experience in water resources or waterways engineering.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:  This position requires possession of an active Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.

NOTE:  The Commonwealth is currently operating in a telework/work-from-home environment due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.  The position's official headquarters is in the Rachel Carson Building, located in Harrisburg, PA.

WORK SCHEDULE:
8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Monday through Friday
This position will require travel when permissible
