FLUORIDE REMOVAL
Published on by PETER KARANI, Director at Safi water treatment solution in Technology
Dear Sir,
Can some one out there advise on how I can get equipment preferably a cartilage (RO is not an option) that can reduce fluoride levels in water from 3.5mgl to less than 1.5mgl. For water with a flow rate of 20lpm.
Best Regards

Mr. Karani, Adsroption on activated alumina is fairly selective for fluoride ion. Search for a solid phase media to avoid having to add a filtration step after.
-
Dear PETER KARANI ,
Try using a sand filter with the replacement of sand with shredded glass.1 Comment

Shredded glass????????? That's a new one for fluoride.

We have the adsorbent that could removes the Fluoride in drinking water. it is low cost, effective and span media can be safely dispose as land fill. Check our website: www.asxban.com.sg or contact me at david.kang@asxban.com

Look at any reducing agent. Sodium Thiosulfate is fed proportional to water flow to reduce chloride. Floride and Chloride are in the same family. Sodium Thiosulfate is used by water treatment plants for this purpose. For indistrial processes, sodium sulfite is used, but not for potable. I assume you are talking drinking water: if so, why would you want to remove it. It has a purpose in preventing teeth cavities: and that is a fact. Not something to be discussed, if you are one of the crazy people who are just against floride addition to drinking water, without any knowledge of the facts.

Thiosulfate has nothing to do with it.

Hi Waymon,
Thank you for your prompt reply.
I agree to some extend with what you have indicated , but i beg to differ with you indication that high fluoride levels have beneficial health effects.
The positive fluoride benefits are confined to waters with fluoride less than 1.5mgl.
You may perhaps require to check the WHO guidelines on the same.
Thanks for the advise.

Dear sir,
The ion exchange adsorption process will be much better in this type of application.

Dear Karani,
A small electrocoagulation unit with aluminium electrodes can also perform this purification.1 Comment

Hi Parmentier ,
Thank you for your prompt reply to our enquiry.
Can you favour us with more details as to how the electrocoagulation unit works, the dimensions , efficacy, cost among other things/ benefits.
Your reply will be appreciated.

It depends upon the volume. The standard method is activated alumina. Bone char has been used traditionally in small non technical applications. The alumina can be reactivated.

The affect of fluoride is reduced by 100% by using UBCAL Electronic Water Conditioner and has many other important benefits.

Yes sir, we have a double stage absorption fluoride removal system, which is no R.O, wastes no water and needs no electricity except for pumping the source water into the first tank. Further details can be had from http://www.watsan.in
