I am interested in designing a treatment plant for treating groundwater supplies.

What is a reliable groundwater treatment modelling software?

  1. Dear Temple,

If you are interested in designing a treatment plant for groundwater supplies. AqMB is the one you are looking for. https://www.aqmb.com.au/

AqMB is a process simulation and concept design software that are effective and easy to use. Building your flow sheet using a drag and drop features with up to 36 common unit operations for water and ZLD applications. You can upload or add up to feed streams for each scenario. The feed scenario and plant configuration are independent so you can try running 5 plants with one feed scenario or vice versa. The detailed results from running a feed scenario and a plant are presented for each unit operations, you can look at the results by just clicking the unit operations, there is also a red flag features when there are potentials problems in the design. AqMB retains previous run results so you can track changes in outputs resulting from design changes. You could also export the design report, flow sheet and mass balance information in easy-to share formats (pdf, xls, doc).

Some of the key features that AqMB gives:

    • ·       AqMB allows you to easily configure flow sheets to design for physico-chemical water treatment plants.
    • ·       AqMB could determine the impacts of dissolved gas on redox and equilibrium chemistry and how process kinetics affects scale formation and corrosion.
    • ·      You can set up basic design information that can be configured to generate simple design reports for equipment pricing.
    • ·      You can compare the results from multiple membrane and resin types in a single design configuration.
    • ·      You can model changing feed water qualities and forecast operational adjustments for optimal asset management and compliance.
    • ·      You can try new membranes or small project upgrades for plant optimisation.
    • ·      It gives information about species interaction and scaling indices for equipment performance boundary conditions.
    • ·      AqMB can reduce the concept design times in tendering cycles.

If you are interested you can use AqMB free trial for 30 days and if you love our software you can have a single user subscription or multiple subscriptions with the price 5-10% of similar products (e.g. Aspen Hysys). Here is the link to our website again:

  2. Groundwater treatment is either a chemical or physical process that is simple compared with biological process. You can have jar test to determine the best chemical, dosing rate, reaction time etc. A spreadsheet calculation is good enough for the system design, why you need a software for?

    1. Dear Liang, Very good software for Groundwater Treatment. I am very interested, Now I am studying in Southeast University, Nanjing. I want to use this software. How can I get?

  3. Companies that manufacture membranes (for baromembrane or electromembrane technologies) provide software, where the ionic composition of water is contributed, after which the program suggests which membranes and how many are needed for this project.

  4. Temple,

I agree with Mahesh.  You need to characterize the groundwater and then decide what, if anything, you need to treat for.  It is common in the US that groundwater is simply pumped and disinfected and served as potable water.  However, if you find VOCs, heavy metals, or high hardness, then other treatments are needed.  CH2M has in-house developed software to design those treatment processes.  However, those are only for our projects.

    Good luck.

  5. since most treatment facilities are grossly out dated and still using chlorine it might be better for the industry if you designed your software based upon a non chlorine process. Microbial cleansing of water has been going on for a few billion years.  Man has found their mistakes and now knows how to use microbes that return this biological function back to nature.  Your new software would set a precedent throughout the industry.

Special note: All future space travel at a minimum will require a 100% recycle technology.  I have completed my work on the designs. Next step are the software programs for each function.  Now that the design phase is complete they appear to have moved up mars missions for man by 20 years.  Your idea will be needed very soon.

  6. I didn't get the question by you, however, what I understood is you would like to know a designing software for the groundwater treatment plant modelling. My suggestion to have a treatment plant characterize the groundwater quality and based on this decide the treatment units required for same which would be beneficial to improve water quality and on the other hand reliable and economical one.

    Regards.

    1. Hi Mahesh, your understanding of the question is right. However, in creating a software of the nature i described, there are options made available for the different kinds of likely pollutants in groundwater. Hence, the software will not be limited to just a single groundwater source. Thank you.

  7. Dear Temple!

you may want to take a look at Dynamic Applications. That's a free software that will allow you to create all kinds of simulation models. There are quite a few introductory products on our website, with basic examples of System Dynamics simulations. All simulations are self-explanatory with ToolTips showing formula and live values. The software is based on a differential equation solver, and so it is capable to adjust simulation models on-the-fly, with an Excel-style formula editor.

What you need to know is that the Target of this software is not complexity in math functions, but reduction, beauty, ergonomy and usability. So it's not super complicated for the scientists. We rather target mass adoption with introductory samples like 48-month business planners, so to make the idea of simulation modeling, balanced scorecards, and planning over time available to everyone. However, custom simulations models can be stored in a variant of XMILE, a common standard.

You can download any of our products and they are fully functional (try Startup Product Manager, and Photovoltaic System for a more complex example). The Pro version is called Perfect Desire, and it's business model is pay what you want.

For activating the formula system, you'll need the following Promo Code:  DLROW-III-MODEL

A water chain simulation is in our dynamic idea voting competition, but it's not yet on the Top. We're working from Top and we publish all favourite simulations of our fan crowd for free.

Our rates start from 25 €/h for Startups, platform development is 33 €/h, customizations 66 €/h. Introductory support is free.

Let me know if you got questions.

  8. Due to the fact that each water source has its own specific quality issues and local conditions vary greatly, the design of water treatment plants should be done by water treatment experts and the design process must comprise laboratory tests and treatment tests on pilot plants.

This is one of the reasons why there are very few available software packages for designing water treatment plants.
