Sodium Hypochlorite Tank vent
Published on by Hilal Alkhozaimi, Project Manager at Majis Industrial Services SAOC, Majis in Technology
We have big electro-chlorination plant and three large storage tanks.
I need to get recommendation on the type of “tank vent” which can prevent too much mist come out of the tank due to aeration of the tank by blowers.
Taxonomy
- Aeration
- Chlorine Dioxide
- Chlorination
- Sea Water Desalinisation
- Aeration
- Disinfection
- Electrochemical Activation

Are using air to sparge or stir the liquid in the tank to keep it from settling? Or, are the blowers just for sweeping the head space of the tank to remove vapors? If its just the head space, you could start by installing a demister box with impinge plates to cause mist droplets to condense and drop out. Conventional wet scrubbers for air pollution control use chevron blade demisters after the packed bed, a chevron type demister would probably work in this case as long as the air velocity isn't too high.

Blowers are used to blow out hydrogen gas from the tank to avoid explosion. I like your suggestion. Thanks

You need to have Demisters in the Tank vent

If they have blowers to vent the tank and exhaust the gases the vent should be at least 2 m above the residential buildings.

We are in industrial area. The problem mostly with health issues and heavy corrossion caused by vapor in steel structures nearby

The vent shall be reverse"J" type with back fire arrester since the tank contains H2 gas also. The size of the vent to be engineered to meet the purging air flow.

Can you recommend vent vendors who can meet our requirements?

What are the blowers doing with you storage tanks? Install a water locker of ea. tank and bring the exhaust's ea. or communicatet over roof, in case it's in the building. Anyhow far from people breathing height.
