SS316L vs Duplex 2304
Published on by Ali Salmani, Process Engineer in Technology
Does anyone have experience with duplex 2304 as a pump material (body, impeller or shaft) instead of SS316L?
Is that a good choice in terms of economical and mechanical properties view for desalination plants? (brackish waters not seawater)
Much appreciated.

Dear Ali, Please see the attached file on Desalination Plants and selection of appropriate stainless steels from the International Stainless Steel Forum. Best regards. Tim

No experience with Duplex 2304 :) I question why you would select that material? The corrosion resistance is about the same as SS316L.
You mentioned that you have brackish water. Beware of higher chloride levels if you are pumping for second / third stages. Temperature is also a consideration.

If your job base on Pharma, Food OK But Normally I use Japanese brand " Cercil..!!!! ( I forget the correct of its name)" This pump we use in Tapioca plant 9 plant and never face any problem. For my of view mainly I check flow rate that mean the supplier have to show the flow rate on their shop before I make consideration.
Hopefully this will be helpful for you.
