The first question that needs to be answered is: what is the flow rate for the filter; both average and maximum. The flow rate determines the size of the filter and the cost. A group of filters in a series will only flow at the rate of the smallest filter. What needs to be considered is max flow. There is a flow rate per cubic foot of sand/filter media. l It is also done with five different types of media, not just sand.
Multimedia (including sand) can be backwashed to recondition the media. Small filters will work, but the replacement gost is much greater over time.
Thank you, Waymon. The max output flow rate we are looking at is 200 litres/hr since this is a household water filtration system. Would you have any literature on the options you highlighted. That will be very helpful.
