Groundwater Management - Implementing Strategies

Published on by in Academic

Hi all,

I am in the process of writing a chapter for agroundwatere book, due to be published by mid-2019.

I am highlighting management from a groundwater perspective in mangrove forests. This may include systems with urban areas or more pristine areas. One of my aims is to bridge gaps between research and implementation.

It would be great if you have (or you know of) any published research that has resulted in implementing management strategies.

If so please send details - just a sentence or 2, including publication and your management result/outcomes for XX (government body, council, agency/dates).

This may be a good chance to highlight your work and/or provide future opportunities. And I will keep you up to date!

Thanks

Paul

  1. Hi Paul, not my expert field but do think there may be some references from a South African perspective, did a quick search on the WRC (Water Research Commssion) website and found the following possible references to your subject matter, there may be more if you take the time to do a lit search, all downloadable free of charge

    Hope this helps

  2. Dear Paul

    Good morning from India.

I have little exposure and experience on mangrove forests.

Sorry for not being able to respond materially.

Wish you best results on your efforts.

  3. HI MR paul,This is honor and pleasure for me hear from you.I published and presented on 2011 to prestigious institute BITS,Pilani ,India project is Identification of energy wastage. The below system is suitable foe ground water recycling and management.

I have took benchmark of my study reference project is Saudi aramco ,Thuwwal-MBR sewage treatment plant recently constructed on 2009-11.I love to express that MBR technology is submerged type-plate type cross flow-  fibre ultra filtration technology conjunction  with cyclic ASP process and filtration process .Out come out put of water is 0.1 TO 0.4 UM will neglible caliform with efficient BOD 99.97% reduction achieved. This water can be used unrestricted irrigation.Plant capacity output is 10,000M3/day.It is matched with California title-22.MOWE ROI standards interms of output.Final energy out come is 0.8 KWH/M3

  4. Hi Paul,

There's a paper in Wetlands of Kenya by R K Ruwa of Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute. Mangrove Wetlands of Kenya. It's a bit old now (1993) but might be a good lead.

Interested to know more about your work and be involved if possible -  I used to live in Indonesia and love it!

  5. Dear Paul,

I am pleased to know your interest in writing a book on groundwater resources.

All countries are confronted with water scarcity of varying types. The daunting biggest challenge for the authorities is in protecting groundwater from depletion and pollution, and making sound managing decisions on complex issues/activities that may affect water supply at local and basin scale. For short-term situation management when water supplies are affected, the managers usually adopt approaches, which involve eliminating immediate, unacceptable impacts on human and the environment, groundwater-use restrictions, regulation, balancing time and resources. However, these may require more research, time, regulations, funding, technology, etc., and as well as may be expensive/complex.

In this context, I have pleasure to inform you that with my over four decades of experience and extensive field investigations on hydrological studies on groundwater covering fourteen river basins in India, I have authored a book  'BETTER GROUNDWATER GOVERNANCE ONLY CAN ENSURE SUSTAINED WATER SUPPLY', published by Lambert Academic Publishing, Germany.

This book identifies the issues that affect water supply; and makes scientific endeavors to improve all stakeholders’ awareness and understanding of real groundwater problems, and suggests governance approaches by relevant policies, with strong peoples’ participation efforts by behavioral change. In addition to need for better governance of groundwater, the book also discuses in detail and also highlights groundwater geo-ethical issues and dimensions in practical reality and the need of change in mental attitude and behavior in all the stakeholders. The analysis may be especially useful to professionals, academics, researchers, students in water governance and communication for implementing groundwater resources protection strategies, and long-term solutions to ensure sustained water supply for public benefit.

This book may be useful to your endeavor. It would be worthwhile to keep a few copies of the book in the library of your organizations, institutes, and agencies, or in your personal library. The price of the book is set at 32.90 Euro /copy. You may find the book available on the publisher’s general partner bookstore on the link given below:
