Pesticide Monitoring in Water
Published on by Donna Murray, WRc plc - Scientist in Academic
I'm looking for online databases or reports that hold pesticide monitoring data for groundwater, surface waters and drinking water.
Do you know of any for Spain or Portugal?

Hello Dona! If you are still following the issue, you may want to llok at results of the screening of 6000 chemicals in the Dniester basin (Ukraine and Moldova) - this is done according to the WFD - https://dniester-commission.com/en/news/pesticides-pharmaceuticals-and-plasticizers-are-found-in-the-dniester/. There is info on the pesticides. Kind regards, Tamara

Thank you for the answers on this. I am trying to find out more about pesticides monitoring in Portugal. Have you a link for Instituto da Água ( National Institute for Water , Portugal)? Do the regions (river basins?) choose what pesticides to monitor or is this decided at national level? Do you have any available data on which are monitored in rivers, lakes and aquifers and the results?
I am also looking for information on Bulgarian monitoring too - what pesticides are measured in Bulgaria?

Hi Donna, in the Catalonia water agency (ACA) web you can find some data for pesticides at least for rivers after 2007. Use this link to the interactive tool
And click "Entrar" Unfortunately is only avaliable in catalan, but I tell you how to do:
click the "selecció de punts de control i paràmetres" button. Then select in tab1 "1.Xarxa de control" all the boxes where you can see the option "substàncies prioritàries i preferents", actually for rivers "rius" and for reservoirs "embassaments". Then in tab2 "2. Paràmetres" you can find the full list clicking "expandeix\contreu tots" You will find "plaguicides organoclorats" and "plaguicides organofosforats"
Good luck!

Hi Donna,
My company, Global Water Intelligence, has just released a report & database on current regulations and guidelines for drinking water, municipal wastewater disposal and reuse, and treated sludge. This includes Spain; pesticides, and a discussion on the latest monitoring trends for these. Perhaps it will be of help - see: https://www.globalwaterintel.com/market-intelligence-reports/Global-Regulations-Package

Dear Donna, sorry about my mistake before. My connection is poor now, in the countryside; very briefly ; Search for 'martinez-capel' and 'pico' as authors in G. Scholar and ResearchGate (2011-2017) and you'll see some of the data we have collected in projects. And I can send you papers if needed. Or email me:
fmcapel@dihma.upv.es
You can try in websites of other river basins In Spain (Confederación Hidrográfica is the name to search for). Good luck.

Dear Donny; The monitoring in Spain is not as regular for pesticides as it's for physico-chemical characteristics, as you probably know. The network for special substances is in charge of that. First try in SIA-JUCAR (Google it, easy to find, it's an info system for water). You'll find some data there. Search in Spanish 'sustancias prioritarias' or 'pesticidas' the frequency is low but there may be data in different points of the River Basin. I continue below another msg.

You can find some information about the monitoring of pesticides in drinking water at the website of ERSAR (The Portuguese water and waste services regulation authority).
There is information available in excel files (in portuguese), per year, for bulk and retail systems, as a part of the annual report.
Information about 2016 monitoring (the lastest):
Bulk system
http://www.ersar.pt/_layouts/mpp/file-download.aspx?fileId=1227011
Retail system
http://www.ersar.pt/_layouts/mpp/file-download.aspx?fileId=1232209
You should look to the sheets ZA_PARAMETROS.
