For starters, the World Lake Day is a very recent global observance celebrated annually on August 27, which was officially established 1st by the United Nations General Assembly in as recent as December 2024. The idea behind dedicating a day for the Lakes was to bring urgent global focus to the conservation, restoration, and sustainable management of lakes as an ecosystem, as a biodiversity hotspot or as a mini-biosphere itself.
On this World Lakes Day 2026, i.e., 27th August, 2026, we are happy and proud to share that our article has been published by IWA (https://www.iwa-network.org/blogs/restoring-waterbodies-nature-s-blueprint-for-climate-resilience-introduction) explaining our vision of restoring natural waterbodies as an integrated, nature-based solution to fight climate change and environmental degradation. Instead of viewing lakes, rivers, and wetlands merely as basins for water accumulation, our approach frames them as critical natural infrastructure and vital ecosystem service providers and a tool to combat and reverse climate change and global warming.
