LOOKING FOR POTENTIAL PARTNERS WHO CAN SUPPORT WASH IN SCHOOLS FOR ALL GIRLS, IN WESTERN, ZAMBIA.   Over 80% of diseases in Zambia emanate from lack of access to improved sanitation. According to the 2012 World Health Organisation (WHO) monitoring report, over six million people in Zambia live without access to toilets and improved sanitation. Out of these six million people, 2.5 million practice open defecation.Clean water, basic toilets and good hygiene practices are essential for the survival and development of children. Today, there are around 2.4 billion people who do not use improved sanitation, and 663 million who do not have access to improved water sources.Without these basic needs, the lives of millions of children are at risk. For children under five, water- and sanitation-related diseases are one of the leading causes of death. Every day, over 800 children die from preventable diseases caused by poor water, and a lack of sanitation and hygiene. One in three schools around the world do not have regular access to water, basic private toilets, or a way to wash hands with soap. In Sub-Saharan Africa, as many as 50% of schools are without access to water. Thirsty children cannot learn, nor can children who are worried about where they might be able to relieve themselves. And children who are ill from dirty water or because they cannot wash their hands with soap are often unable to go to school at all. An estimated 443 million school days are lost every year because of water-related illnesses. My name is Maboshe Patrick, the Founder and Executive Director of the Maboshe Memorial Centre (MMC) a tax-exempted child sponsorship not-for-profit making humanitarian aid NGO founded on the 24th November, 2006 in memories of the late Dr. Rodney Aongola Maboshe in Mongu, Western, Zambia and registered under the laws of Zambia, focusing on helping disabled children and other vulnerable children from poverty stricken families go to school and raise their voices for the right to education in working for communities where all children, mainly girls can learn and lead without fear.
