I am a Swedish/American professional, who has long worked on alternatives to the Iconic WC. Our technology is called Long-Term Composting and makes possible a system that does not require solids removal for 30-50 years yet yields a safe liquid fertilizer. The key to making alternatives used, is of cause that the users must find it more attractive than the habitual flush toilet. We feel that this is the case as CompostEra does not offend any of our senses ... it is always odor-free, silent, aesthetically pleasing, comfortable and easy to use -- see this 50 second video http://youtu.be/39GL1Fj6GHs And for the Function: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C23_qOg3z7k&feature=share

  1. Carl, that's so wonderful. Have you mounted them anywhere? Whats the reaction of consumers?

  2. Hi Erik -- it is strange that habit is so powerful and that using and polluting precious fresh water for transportation has become such a solid norm. CompostEra isolates the solids (feces and paper) and shrinks it naturally over time to about 1-2% of what was added. That's why we can leave it in the tank for 30-50 years and keep pathogens out of the environment. The urine passes through a filter-bed where it is processed to become nitrate and saved in a separate collection tank. The resulting fertiliser is safe and very useful since it consists of broad-spectrum plant nutrients (much better than chemical fertilizers). With both macro and micronutrients we get better tasting more nutritious fruits and vegetables. The process chamber is kept at a lower than ambient pressure which ventilates the toilet and bathroom and makes it odor-free. There is no water needed, no grid-power needed only a small fan that can be run on solar. It is very easy to keep clean. No mechanical devices that can break. There are videos on the page http://www.compostera.org All the best Carl
