💧 Innovation in Sustainable Drinking Water wells: From Knowledge to Practice

Groundwater wells form the foundation of our drinking water supply. Yet, during construction, residues from drilling fluids often remain, hindering groundwater flow. This results in shorter well lifespans and higher maintenance costs.

Together with TU Delft and KWR Water Research Institute, we are working within the TKI project “Fully Developed Groundwater Wells (VOG)” on an innovative construction method for both vertical and horizontal wells. The goal: to minimize initial clogging and to build groundwater wells that are sustainable, efficient, and future-proof.

Our shared ambitions:

- Develop drilling additives that safely degrade in groundwater
- Improve cleaning concepts to effectively remove drilling residues
- Develop new measurement methods for accurate flow assessment

The knowledge and insights gained through this research at TU Delft are directly applied in practice. On behalf of Grondboorbedrijf Haitjema B.V., we have built six advanced well development units for Brabant Water N.V. and Vitens, designed to develop and regenerate drinking water wells.

By combining research, innovation, and application, we are taking groundwater well development to a higher level — with one shared goal: sustainable and reliable drinking water extraction for the future.
