KudiKunta – a magnificent 8 acres lake well within the heart of the city of Hyderabad, happens to be one of the many neglected and crucified waterbody through the hands of rapid urbanisation. Once a beautiful lake near two of the ancient temples had eventually become a dumping ground.
City sewage was being dumped in the lake, it was a mosquito breeding ground, full of filth, foul smell, insects and carcases of the dead.
It was in this death bed situation of the lake that an NGO called SAHE, stepped in to save the waterbody. About 22,000 people live half a km from the 8 acre lake and SAHE has held 40-50 community meetings to get back the sense of ownership and responsibility. After 10 months of interaction, about 10 tonnes of plastic was removed from the lake in 32 clean-up operations with the support of the communities, to give the lake its present shape.
Once the physical demarcation and restoration work was done, then SAHE started working on the Water quality. Today there’s only one sewage input left out of 24 that existed earlier. But this one input feeds 2 MLD of sewage to the lake every day.
Let’s look at this story of the Rejuvenation of KudiKunta Lake with SAHI & Cownomics

    1. Dear Sai Madhavan

we did that project in 2021, the lake recieves untreated raw sewage every day. And in last monsoon, I cam to know that the sewage line nearby has bursted and unprecendeted sewage volume was flowin the entire monsoon. Under such circumstances, recaliberation of digestion capacity is required, but our NGO partner in the project is working and experimenting with other technologies now. Thus, we can't help it in this situation. You may please talk to the local authorities.
