Amount and start of Runoff is affected by many factors like 1. If the rainfall intensity is greater than infiltration rate of soil then runoff starts immediately after rainfall. While in case of low rainfall intensity runoff starts later. Thus high intensities of rainfall yield higher runoff. 2. Duration of Rainfall 3. Rainfall Distribution 4. Direction of Prevailing Wind 5. some other factor like size of Watershed, shape of watershed, slope, temperature etc. So for every area runoff process will start at different amount and intensity.
