Thanks Stefan. I have used GIS in watershed prioritization in India. Marginal farming is an obstacle using GIS on large scale as far as India is concerned. But as you said, mapping and data computation was quite easy.

I think there are different tendencies. The use of GIS is very widespread in universities and enterprises too. Frequently the GIS is used as mapping tool only, especially for the watershed area management. Data processing for complex spatial issues or calculations is a challenge still. Regarding developing countries an important benefit is the establishment of web based information systems for watershed management and public participation including mapping and feature requests.
