As I spent 2 years in Iran some 50 years ago, l can say that sanitation was very low on all water use. It is imperative to treat sewage to completely remove all contamination. The danger is not only in the crops but in the water that replenishes the ground water. Of I was the official in charge of water supply in Iran I would proceed to design and build a very large desalinization plant on the Caspian Sea.
