Beaver are having a moment. Long hunted for their fur or extinguished as a nuisance, states like Colorado are promoting coexistence policies for the animals in recognition of their engineering abilities to move water where it’s needed most—especially in times of drought and increasing wildfires.

Two years ago, I proposed several short- and long-term solutions on this very site (Water Network) to address the drought issues facing Glen Canyon Dam and the Colorado River. The following year, two of my solutions were implemented and put into operation, yet I find it hard to believe that the problem has still not been resolved.
