There are many solutions for what you are trying to do. Kind of depends what you want to do with the products and how much money and space you have. Aerobic digestion works and is simple to operate, anaerobic digestion is more complex but give the opportunity to recover methane for heat and power generation.
My biggest question is what do we have to work with? Is power reliable, is land available...

I can suggest an unconventional solution which can not only digest the solids using anaerobic Multi chamber Bio Digestor but can also generate methane, especially for agrarian settings, small communities.Water released can be good for irrigation.
