Water footpint/usage in different industries

Published on by in Case Studies

hi, how much water is used in different industries ?

For instance, how much does the oil industry use water and how much of their usage water turn into waste ie not reused?

I know that in homes about 70 of our water usage goes into the sewage system as waste water.

Much appreciated if you can share studies that detail this by Industry?

  1. You can type water footprint in your web searcher, you will see some specialized websites

I don't suggest any because I've not found one fully trustworthy

Regardless that wastewater, ALL KIND OF CONTAMINATED WATER EXCEPT RADIO ACTIVE, CAN BE INFINITELY RECYCLED AS POTABLE ONE, of course you have to use or know the right technology as ours.

  2. It will depend on the respective actual industry designs and configurations

the Water Research Commission in South Africa has produced some really useful water and wastewater use publications per major industries where specific water use are presented

you should be able to access them, referenced NATSURV and WRC on a Google type search should find them, Herewith reference to one I can share

  3. Depends on the size of the refinery, but can take their production of oil in K bbl/day (barrel =42 gallons) and multiply by 8 for a rough estimate.  Almost all is treated and discharged for refineries.  Costs too much to clean it up for reuse.  The ROI isn’t there yet.  You are never going to have a $ saving project, but rather has to be driven by Environmetal stewardship.  Thanks, Sean
