The temperature required for the RO facility

I would like to ask about the maximum temperature required for the RO facility?

  1. It depends on to what extent you can tolerate salt passage raise due to working at higher temperature bringing about higher conductivity of your product. Plus, the permissible temperature which membranes can work at depends on the pressure drop created through elements. The lower pressure drop through a pressure vessel, the higher temperature membrane elements can resist. Membrane elements have experienced CIP at about 55C while pressure drop through pressure vessel was about 2 bar.

  2. Membranes have tolerance upto 40 degree centegrade.... I have operated it upto 35 degree centegrade... In fact membranes performance is better at higher tempratures compared to room temprature...In fact I have used hot water cleaning for membranes due to bio fouling.. and it gave me better results.

    1. You mention, you used hot water for biofouling cleaning. What temperature? I do not believe to use 70-80°C on standard technical RO membranes, due to intolerance of glues.

  3. You need to provide more information for a sensible answer to your question.

    Are you wanting to know the maximum feed-water temperature for membranes?

    Note that selection of the correct grade of stainless steel to avoid pitting &/or crevice corrosion is also temperature dependant.

    And then there is the maximum temperatures for the motors, power systems and electronics.

    If you struggle with these basic parameters maybe you need an expert. DM me :)

  4. 40-45 C But I would like to use RO to treat TDS and I have seen some company in USA and using heat RO untill they get crystallize of scale or struvite.

      Interesting. It does not sound like an RO process, more like thermal desalination, or is that a pretreament before RO membranes?

  5. Temperature in the room should be limited to the control panel supplier's requirements.

    Electonic components like PLC and HMI for instance require controllable limits to avoid overheating and malfunctioning.

    Also dosing tanks may need moderate low temperatures (e.g. Chlorinating Chemicals).

    Membranes will only be affected by feedwater temperature which should be taken into consideration by your RO supplier during the design of your equipment. Room temperature is not of any relevance in this regard.

  6. This is primarily dependent on the nominal characteristics of the membranes used. Most commercial composite membranes are tolerant up to a maximum of 40-45 C! As a rule they are not operated at these temperatures but at least 10 degrees lower.
