  6. Dear Mr. Aziz, In addition to the importance of monitoring multiple signals, it's also very important to be able to detect true positives among the plethora of false positives that typically occupy a signals state space. Here is an attached PowerPoint which shows how one can isolate true positives and detect security breaches in water quality. Thanks! John B Cook, PE Advanced Data Mining Intl john.cook(at)advdmi.com

  7. Dear Zubair M. Aziz We saw your post in The Water Network and would like to propose a solution. We are involved in this kind of research and development and have many years' experience in various sensor technologies. Our newest product is a reliable, very precise, high resolution instrument for the real time-measurement of bacterial concentration within water, especially in drinking water. It is designed for using on site; directly at a purification or water treatment station, a groundwater pump station, in a distribution net, etc. The Online Bacteria Analyzer (OBA) uses flow cytometry technique and is worldwide the first instrument which has been developed for 24 hours/ 7 days-use on site. It runs for a minimum of two weeks without any intervention. Results about the total cell count (TCC), high nucleic acid (HNA), low nucleic acid (LNA) and dead/live are available in less than 20 minutes. Please visit our website for further information: www.metanor.com. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. We will gladly support you. Best regards, Martin Kuhn CEO Metanor Ltd.

  8. Dear Mr. Aziz, concerning coliforms online detection, you can use the aquaBio from ADASA that is able to detect one single e-coli bacteria in 100ml of water, and also it measures bacteria concentrations. On the other hand for high concentrations of bacteria you get the result in 3 hours. http://adasaproducts.com/en/portfolio/aquabio/ www.adasaproducts.com xflorensa@adasasistemas.com

In small watersheds the influence of a single factor can cause a variation of several orders of magnitude. WQ is generally more constant in watersheds greater than 100 000 km2, and the variation is usually within one order of magnitude for most of the measured variables, unless regulated. Regarding groundwater, changes in hydrodynamics and redox (reduction-oxidation) conditions can change the interaction between the solid material and the fluid resulting in change in the groundwater quality.

Support decision-making and operational water management in critical situations. When pollution events occur, reliable data are needed, which may require early warning systems to signal when critical pollution levels are exceeded or toxic effects occur. In these cases, models can often support decision-making. For transboundary waters, information is usually gathered from the national monitoring systems (which are established and operated according to national laws and regulations and international agreements), rather than from monitoring systems specifically established and operated by joint bodies7; Determine trends in the quality of the aquatic environment and how the environment is affected by the release of contaminants, by other human activities, and/or by waste treatment operations, often known as “impact monitoring”

Efficient water management requires fast and precise access to and processing of an abundance of process data. The Beck off Embedded PC series is optimally suited to this: The connected Bus Terminals support the connection of all common sensors and actuators for the precise acquisition of the different process parameters, such as levels, temperatures, flow rate, pH value, oxygen or nitrogen content etc. at the various water treatment stations. The compact embedded controllers have sufficient performance to control the decentralize outstations of a wastewater treatment plant. Apart from control technology they also take care of data storage and processing as well as local visualization. The scalability and modularity of the PC-based controller provides the operating company with the possibility to adapt its plant to the many different or changing requirements without having to accept high implementation costs and expenditure of time on each occasion.,https://www.researchgate.net/publication/259932004_Investigation_of_drinking_water_quality_changes_in_the_network_of_Iasi_city_by_means_of_an_on-line_monitoring_system

  13. I am partial to ABB. They have always been effective, user-friendly and a like longevity. There are also bioprobes out now that have come a long way over the past five years. There is one particular brand, but the name escapes me. Just look up bioprobes and case histories for more information. I will post again if I remember the name of the company. I hope this helps you out. Thanks, Sean L. Roop

  14. Great idea ! but it requires contribution of resources and if wanna infra at the level of local then it's very easy ! its like the weather report.

  15. Hi Zubair - our company supply an automated, on-site, rapid method for detection of E. coli and Coliforms bacteria, the TECTA-B16. Website is here - www.tecta-pds.com, and I've attached some materials for you. We have hundreds of installations at water utilities and plants around the world, and are US EPA approved for drinking water. Please email me at patrick.wolfe@tecta-pds.com for more info, and I can share plenty of case studies, success stories, and validation / approval documention for the many approvals we have globally.

  16. Zubair,  Usually you will find that most quality instrumentation are single purpose.  For example: American Micro Detection Systems (AMDS) builds a completely autonomous Instrument (REX) that monitors the dissolved metal ions in water down to low (5-10) ppb its data output can be feed to a remote workstation, or cell phone anywhere in the world.  It is designed to be placed at the point of interest and reduce the "old lab lag-time" normally associated with water elemental measurements of this kind.  REX can measure contaminates from aluminum (Al) to uranium (U).  REX does not do any of the other functions that you ask for because it uses XRF to provide this level of measurement.

My suggestion is to look for quality instrumentation in each of your categories.  Best Regards, Lynn Essman

    1. Taking Intermittent multipoint samples, sealing them and organising Lab testing on Annual Contract basis works well until the constituents of water that have fluctuating parameters get detected or at least their range gets known. Seasonality of raw water intake is a big factor. I sense that you shall have to source Multiple Detection Systems for ONLINE checks...even for critical parameters like BOD, DO, TDS , PH value, Bacteria count, Trace Elements, etc..

  17. You might consider evaluating the OnGuard System from Solenis. I have not used the product but wgat I read about it makes it worth investigating. The key difference is that you are getting real-time data on overall program performance. When I first reviewed this offering - I was impressed w the sophistication of the modeling...this product leap frogged everything else out there. For the record - I don't work there or have a "dog in that hunt."

  18. Regarding microbiological contamination, in order to prevent such potential threat it is of outermost importance to keep track of bacterial growth on the internal walls of pipelines/tanks and on other surfaces in contact with the water. Indeed, the bacterial layer (biofilm) forming on those surfaces represents the ideal environment for the survival and growth of pathogens. A technology used by many Fortune500 companies (including Total Oil & Gas, GDF Suez, Danone and others) for monitoring biofilm successfully is illustrated in attachment. For further info you can visit our website or contact me

  19. Assalamualikum, We have rial time monitoring system from Campbell Scientific, it provides the following parameters: pH, TDS, EC, DO, Turbidity, Water level, water temperature. Regarding residual chlorine and Coliforms, I'm not sure if they have some equipment to do that. if you have any other question about these stations please don't hesitate. me email: karak2u@yahoo.com

  20. we already have developed a system that shall send continuous data about flow rate to a central station using GSM/GPRS. The same system can be modified for your requirement with the appropriate sensors and end elements. please contact "founder@cfatglobal.com" for further details. 1. Some good comments - have a look at on line UV/Vis systems like S:Can. They have a new cut down version - as well and ATP tests pathogens for biofilms - the big issues all came down to the sampling preconditioning and the discharges from the online wet chemistry systems.
Spend the time and money on the sampling systems. Would also look at some of the Hach systems as they have on board 3G/4G comms that allows remote monitoring - they also have a good data management system that links across platforms such as CSV and I think OPC for data managment. The remote access overcomes the $3000 service visits once set up. E&H have Asset Centre and have HART interfaces for instrument diagnostics - another QA/QC bonus.
