Hi All,
When is the best situation to use composite filter media, Reverse Osmosis and Ultra-filtration? When can one use these three combined or separately in water treatment?
Thanks
Justin

Hello, Justin.
The use of a water treatment technology depends on many aspects, but mainly it is very important two things: quality of the rawwater (untreated water source) and water quality required (use of water). There are a lot of possibilities of applications in this regard.

Coarse partucles ate ate removed in filteiner particles are removed in ultra filtration. DissilvDi solids are removed in ro membranes. . You need to select based on raw water quality and requirement

With due respect a filtration expert could write several PhD thesis if he had to fully cover this topic as there are so many techncial, environmental, feed water, application goal and commercial variables.
This web site www.watersls.com maybe of assistance.

These all situations occur when U use groundwater for treatment as its TDS/Conductivity generally remains high. The results are excellent if you install a hydro- flow gadget upstream of RO Plant Membrane system as it prevents clogging of Membranes and improves performance of the system.

Good day, in most cases, the main factor will be cost. MMF will be cheapest solution, as a pre-treatment to RO. However, if cost is not a concern UF it a better option. You only use RO if u need to remove minerals content, but in most cases, TDS for the feed is high, so RO is employed. I guess that is the pragmatic approach, use the lower cost when price is a big concern. Hope that help.

Good Afternoon Chinenye,
The various technologies have specific applications for solutions your prospective Customers require. Please click https://www.aquathin.com/your-water/tech-ratings and review the Particle Size Removal Chart, both from Aquathin University.

When there is saline river water the prefiltration media takes out the frogs and logs, the UF takes out turbidity and particles and the RO reduces the salinity.

That is correct,I agree with George. However the filter media can also remove turbidity and particles if the gradation of the media is properly achieved for example in slow sand filtration processes. But to remove the salinity RO must be applied.

Hi.JN. Good question.well answered by MN.
Just remember word CATS for purity of drnkng wtr.C clean & clear. A alkaline pH7.5.T-tasty likeable salts. S- sterile bacterias & virus.
Next set of points are
P- physical purity use Comp. Fltr..
C- chemical constituents TDS. use RO.
B- micro bio purity sterile have UF.
For drnkng water have all 3 of them.. For industrial use.can go as required..

Hello sir,Composite filter media is work as Catridge filteration for liquid and airfilteration. This is prefiltration.
In prefiltration 5 -10 micron catrige filtration followed with sandfiltration(150-microns)
UF is using reduce mostly SDI and NTU. Some chemical industries they are using after ion exchange softner.0.01 micron
RO is using TDS removal 99.9% monoviolent ions removal.0.001Micron
All three are combinely coming SWRO/BWRO almost potable water application where influent TDS is 1000-5000 TDS.

http://www.bbnworld.net/water/awp.pdf improve RO life time by 8 times
maybe no need RO.. and www.bbnworld.net/water/dwater_project_enkr.pdf

To remove only TSS to the lowest level of 1 - 5 NTU, Composite filter media is sufficient. In addition to remove bactories, oxidents like Chlorine, Hydrogen peroxide, Hypo, Ozonization. UV radiation to be used.
To remove colloids like collodial silica, UF to be used.
RO to be used if TDS has to be reduced or removed. UF shall be used as pre filter to RO, which improves the life of RO membranes.
